Pain during Pregnancy

Women commonly suffer from back, neck and pelvic pain during pregnancy. Pain often occurs more on one side due to muscle and joint imbalance with increased hormones during pregnancy.

Posture changes during pregnancy also contribute to pain.

Common areas of pain include:

  • Pubic bone
  • Posterior pelvic and bottom muscle pain      sometimes radiating down the leg
  • Lower or upper back pain
  • Neck pain and headaches
  • Hand and wrist pain

Tips to help:

  • Maintain good posture
  • When standing or carrying keep weight even
  • Avoid twisting movements
  • Take shorter steps
  • Use core muscles to support your back and pelvis
  • Relax muscles by stretching and applying heat
  • Bend at the knees and hips when lifting
  • Carry objects close to your body
  • Regular appropriate exercise
