Core Muscle Strengthening

 

Your core muscles consist of your deep abdominal muscles, pelvic floor muscles (Kegel muscles), deep spine muscles and diaphragm (breathing muscle).

 

These muscles help you maintain good posture,    reduce back / pelvic pain and help prevent I      ncontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. 

Often these muscles become weak following episodes of back pain, pregnancy, childbirth, abdominal      surgery, chronic breathing problems or with long term poor posture.

 

What can be done?

  • Learn where these muscles are and how to use them
  • Abdominal ultrasound is a non-invasive way to visualize these muscles and help you contract them. This is called “Biofeedback”
  • Specific exercises will help strengthen these  muscles
  • Education on how to use these muscles in your daily activities to reduce pain
  • Posture correction
  • Advice on preventing further weakness of the core muscles
  • Incorporating the use of these muscles into your exercise and gym programs to prevent pain and injury
